How to Throw an Axe With Two Hands

1. Stance and Grip

Place your non-dominant foot forward and grip the bottom of the axe handle with your dominant hand. Overlap with the non-dominant hand, grasping your own hand.

2. Axe Positioning

Bring the axe over your head, starting with all weight on your back foot. Keep the axe straight and your eyes on the target.

3. Throw Execution

Begin the throw by transferring your weight from the back foot to the front foot. Lean forward and extend your arms towards the target, bringing the axe forward in a straight line.

4. Follow-Through

Release the axe with arms fully extended, ensuring a smooth follow-through. Don’t be afraid to let your arms fall past your sides.

How to Throw an Axe With One Hand (Warrior Style)

1. Stance and Grip

Stand with the non-dominant foot forward. Hold the axe at the bottom of the handle with your dominant hand.

2. Axe Positioning

Bring the axe back over your shoulder, keeping the elbow tucked in. All of your weight should be on your back foot.

3. Throw Execution

Lean forward into the throw fully extending your arm towards the target. Keep your eyes focused on the target and maintain a straight arm throughout the motion.

4. Follow-Through

Release the axe with your arm fully extended. If the axe under-rotates throw lighter or take a step back, if it over rotates do the opposite.

How to Throw an Axe Underhand (Assassin Style)

1. Stance and Grip

Stand with your dominant foot forward. Hold the axe upside down in front of you at the bottom of the handle with blade facing the target.

2. Axe Positioning

Bring the axe down to your side, keeping eyes on the target making sure to keep a loose grip on the handle.

3. Throw Execution

Bring the axe further back behind you. Step forward with your non-dominant foot and begin to bring your throwing arm forward and through.

4. Follow-Through

Release the axe as you extend your arm, following through until your arm is fully extended upward. If the axe under-rotates take a step back, if it over rotates do the opposite.
